Blog - James McCallum Stage 4

Luck?... What luck?

Yes today wasn’t much better than the last 3 and I ended up on my *** with some nice road rash at 1.2 km to go.

The afore mentioned crash happened when I was trying to get Tony up there so we could score a nice cheeky wee top 10 on the stage. The sprint had been pretty safe till the last 3km, as people started to get nervous and excited at the same time there was lots of flicking around at the front of the bunch. Suddenly big gaps in the bunch suddenly became small holes.

As T mobile began to wind it up at 2 to go there was 2 major switches from left to right. The first was ok and no one came down. The second was not as forgiving. I got totally blindsided by the rider in front of me. My left foot came out as my front wheel was taken away. As I skated along on bum the only thought was “I’m gonna get piled in to here by 80 guys”. However……it didn’t pan out that way no one hit me, can you believe it?

So after a bike change I managed to roll into the finish rather pissed off wondering what would be thrown at me next.
